The SciTech Spins Lecture Series continues with its fourth edition taking place on December 18. SciTech Spins is the institute’s academic outreach initiative for students, especially grades 9 to 12.
SciTech Spins 4 Conference: Theme and speakers
The fourth online conference is titled “Unraveling Nature: From the Galaxies to the Quantum Realm”.
Scientists from IIT Delhi, Professor Suprit Singh, Professor Abhishek Muralidhar Iyer, and Professor Tarun Sharma from the Physics Department will explain to students the universe and its history.
What will the SciTech Spins 4 conference explore?
Questions like “Can electrons pass through walls?” What do atoms look like? Why does matter have mass? How can the sky be used as a laboratory? will be taken up by the speakers during the lecture divided into two parts.
In the first part entitled “A Brief History of the Universe: From the Big Bang to the Present”, Professor Suprit Singh will take students on a tour of the universe from its beginnings.
The second part, delivered by Profs Iyer and Sharma, will dive into the world of elementary particles.
Giving an overview of their conference, the team said: âOne of the fundamental challenges of the human race is to understand nature in all of its manifestations. This includes objects as large as galaxies and stars to fundamental particles like electrons.
âOver the past several centuries our understanding has undergone a process of constant evolution. This conference will attempt to retrace the important steps in this progression and will ultimately lead to our understanding today, âthe team added.
What happened at the SciTech Spins 3 conference?
The 3e The SciTech Spins conference titled âMaterials that Matterâ with Lab Demonstrations took place on November 20, 2021. It received an overwhelming response from attendees.
A class 8 student named Gauri Garg, who attended the third lecture, wrote a note to one of the professors after the lecture.
âI enjoyed this online session and want to thank you for making learning difficult concepts so easy, entertaining and engaging,â she wrote.
âWhen I joined the session, my mom told me the topic was for graduates, but once you started talking I could understand it quite easily,â her note said.
âThe examples that were picked up were also very exciting. I loved it when you connected the concepts to the science taught in my classroom, âsaid the note.
The inaugural SciTech Spins conference titled âDesign Thinking – A Powerful Tool for Problem Solvingâ and the second conference titled âLearning to Learn Through Modelingâ were held on September 11 and October 23, 2021, respectively.
Assist students to obtain certificates
IIT Delhi issues electronic certificates to all registered students nominated by their respective schools who attend the conference.
They will also be invited to ‘Open House’, an annual intellectual feast hosted by IIT Delhi, which provides an ideal platform for students to connect with some of the leading researchers in science and technology.
How to attend SciTech Spins Conferences
Schools can contact IIT Delhi through its Associate Dean, Academic Outreach and New Initiatives ([email protected]; [email protected]) to nominate their students for the SciTech Spins Lecture Series .
The conference will also be broadcast live on the institute’s official YouTube channel.
